Observatorio Demográfico de América Latina y el Caribe 2020. Mortalidad por COVID-19: evidencias y escenarios

Abstract

En esta edición del Observatorio Demográfico se analiza el impacto de la pandemia de enfermedad por coronavirus (COVID-19) en la mortalidad de los países de la región a partir de las fuentes de información nacionales de defunciones de los registros civiles y de los sistemas de información de salud disponibles. Además, mediante un ejercicio de simulación con distintos escenarios de tasas de prevalencia del COVID-19, se estima el impacto de las muertes asociadas a esta enfermedad en la esperanza de vida al nacer de los 38 países y territorios de América Latina y el Caribe. Para elaborar este Observatorio se ha utilizado la información oficial sobre las defunciones y las causas de muerte disponible al 31 de octubre de 2020, así como las estimaciones y las proyecciones de población que elaboran las Naciones Unidas.
