Abstract

La fecundidad es la variable demográfica que históricamente ha mostrado tener mayor impacto en los cambios observados en el crecimiento y la estructura por edades de la población. Por ejemplo, una alta fecundidad está generalmente asociada con un fuerte crecimiento de la población y con una distribución por edades joven, sobre todo en aquellos países que han logrado descensos en sus tasas de mortalidad. Utilizando como base las estimaciones y proyecciones de población actualmente vigentes en cada uno de los veinte países de América Latina, publicadas en el Boletín Demográfico 40, se presenta aquí información actualizada y ampliada de los indicadores de la fecundidad femenina contenidos en los Boletines Demográficos 26 y 31
