Abstract

Las metas del Milenio y la igualdad de género. El caso de Argentina de Claudia Giacometti presenta una síntesis de los principales problemas que afectan a los países en desarrollo: pobreza, acceso a la educación, inequidad de género, mortalidad infantil, mortalidad materna, el avance de VIH y otras enfermedades, y la sostenibilidad del medio ambiente. Este estudio muestra la relevancia del análisis de género en cada uno de los objetivos, como medio para alcanzar las metas, mientras reitera que la igualdad de género es un objetivo global válido en sí mismo. El trabajo llama particularmente la atención sobre el déficit de información estadística disponible y los desafíos para un seguimiento adecuado del cumplimiento de las metas. Por otro lado el trabajo se complementa con indicadores adicionales que muestran la heterogeneidad regional y otras desigualdades que afectan a hombres y mujeres.
