Patrones de especialización comercial y desempeño del mercado de trabajo en América Latina

Abstract

Este documento explora los vínculos entre patrones de especialización comercial y desempeño del mercado de trabajo en tres subregiones (México y Centroamérica, MERCOSUR y Chile, y la Comunidad Andina); durante el período 1990-2003. Después de una caracterización de los patrones de inserción internacional basada en la composición de las exportaciones, concentración geográfica de las exportaciones por región de destino e importancia de la migración y las remesas familiares, el documento presenta un análisis del desempeño del mercado de trabajo en las tres subregiones en términos del comportamiento del empleo formal e informal, la tasa de desempleo y el crecimiento de los salarios reales. Finalmente, se analizan los vínculos entre patrón de inserción internacional y desempeño laboral destacando los vínculos entre patrón de especialización comercial, crecimiento económico y evolución del empleo formal así como aquellos entre la evolución del desempleo y el patrón de especialización, el tipo de cambio real y la migración internacional.
