Competencia y regulación en la banca: el caso de Honduras

Abstract

En este trabajo se pretende realizar un análisis de las condiciones de competencia en el sector financiero de Honduras, en especial del sector bancario que constituye el contribuyente más importante para la industria.Se estudian también las condiciones de la regulación bancaria en Honduras, como marco de referencia para la promoción de la competencia. Se analiza el estado actual de la regulación prudencial a la luz de los principios establecidos por el Comité de Basilea. De ello se concluye que con la nueva reforma al marco legislativo se ha evolucionado considerablemente para crear un ambiente más estable y favorable para el desarrollo del sector y el ingreso de nuevos participantes en forma ordenada y competitiva. Asimismo, se presenta una caracterización del Sistema Bancario y su evolución durante los últimos 10 años, en términos de crecimiento de sus principales variables e indicadores, especialmente los asociados con la eficiencia agregada y con el fortalecimiento de la solidez y solvencia de las instituciones bancarias.
