Abstract

Methodologies for evaluating the socio-economic impact of disasters Abstract: The methodologies collected in this report are based on the concepts and criteria's of the ECLAC Handbook for Disaster Evaluation and are currently used by the National Centre for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED) for evaluating the impact of disasters in Mexico in order to meet the necessity of retrospective information of these impacts. Creating a report by means of both methodologies allows for a dissemination of the experience of Mexico in terms of application, revision and complementation, as well as a subsequent examination of the possible use of these methodologies for disaster evaluation in other countries and regions. The methodologies examined in this report are known as; Concise Methodology for Evaluating the Socioeconomic Impact of Disasters, and Retrospective Methodology. These two were also included in the first version of the reports elaborated for the project IADB/ECLAC on Information and Indicators for Managing Natural Disasters.
