Ganadería regenerativa: definición, caracterización y recomendaciones de políticas

Abstract

El desarrollo sostenible del sector ganadero en América Latina y el Caribe puede potenciarse a través de la adopción de sistemas que contribuyan a regenerar los suelos. Además de sus ventajas ambientales en comparación con la ganadería convencional, los sistemas regenerativos ofrecen oportunidades para aumentar la rentabilidad de los predios. Sin embargo, la falta de consenso sobre una definición de la ganadería regenerativa obstaculiza la articulación y la evaluación de marcos normativos en este ámbito. Con el presente documento se busca dar un paso hacia la satisfacción de esta necesidad. Sobre la base de un examen de los principales enfoques referentes a la ganadería regenerativa, se proponen una definición y un conjunto de indicadores de éxito. A fin de fomentar la puesta en práctica del planteamiento conceptual, se proponen acciones de política para enfrentar los desafíos estructurales de la transición hacia la ganadería regenerativa.
