Brechas de acceso a la educación en Guatemala: transformación educativa para la igualdad, con énfasis en las poblaciones rurales y los pueblos indígenas

Abstract

En este trabajo se muestra que, a pesar de los esfuerzos por mejorar la educación, persisten en Guatemala grandes brechas de acceso al goce efectivo del derecho a la educación, particularmente en el caso de las poblaciones rurales y los pueblos indígenas. Con excepción de la enseñanza primaria, las brechas de acceso y logro educativo en preprimaria, ciclo básico y diversificado son muy elevadas y su superación representa un desafío muy grande de inversión, compromiso y prioridad política. No basta con que los niños y jóvenes asistan a la escuela; el verdadero reto es que logren las habilidades, competencias y conocimientos que los preparen para aprender a lo largo de la vida y para insertarse social y laboralmente. Es urgente no solo aumentar el acceso a la educación y la eficiencia y la calidad educativa para toda la población, sino también nivelar hacia arriba los aprendizajes de la diversidad poblacional para disminuir las brechas educativas y lograr que nadie se quede atrás.
