El cambio climático, la distribución del ingreso y la pobreza: el caso de México

Abstract

Esta síntesis de política pública analiza la magnitud potencial de los efectos del cambio climático sobre los ingresos de la población en el sector agrícola en México. El análisis considera el impacto de las variaciones de la temperatura y las lluvias en el ingreso de los hogares rurales y, por consiguiente, en la pobreza y la desigualdad en México. Los principales resultados obtenidos indican que estas variaciones climáticas, simuladas para cada escenario específico, podrían generar un incremento en 11 puntos porcentuales de los hogares que viven en situación de pobreza extrema, así como un incremento de más del 20% en el nivel de desigualdad, medido a través del coeficiente de Gini. Finalmente, es muy probable que estos resultados puedan reflejar una situación similar en otros países de la región, principalmente en aquellos en los que el sector agrícola tiene una participación importante en la ocupación de mano de obra y en los países donde se esperan cambios importantes en la temperatura y en los niveles de lluvia.
