El cambio climático y sus efectos en la biodiversidad de América Latina

Abstract

Esta síntesis de política pública destaca la importancia económica, social y ambiental de los servicios que proporciona la biodiversidad en América Latina y el Caribe. Sin embargo, esta biodiversidad es vulnerable ante los efectos del cambio climático. Como respuesta, los gobiernos de la región han adoptado diferentes estrategias que, además de haber permitido obtener beneficios directos en cuanto a la conservación de la biodiversidad, han otorgado beneficios indirectos relacionados con el bienestar de la población. A pesar de ello, se desconoce en muchos casos cuáles son los beneficios económicos específicos de dichas prácticas. Este conocimiento es importante para poder priorizar las inversiones y obtener los mayores beneficios posibles de la conservación de la biodiversidad y de procesos de adaptación de los ecosistemas al cambio climático.
