Medición de lo rural para el diseño e implementación de políticas de desarrollo rural

Abstract

Con el objetivo de poner el desarrollo rural en el centro de las preocupaciones de los tomadores de decisiones, en este documento se analizan las definiciones censales de “rural” actualmente en uso y las discusiones en torno a estas definiciones, tanto en América Latina y el Caribe como en otras regiones. Influyen en las opiniones la creciente disociación entre el lugar de residencia y el lugar y tipo de trabajo, el incremento de los intercambios de todo tipo, así como las cadenas productivas que cruzan las áreas rurales y urbanas. La propuesta de esta investigación es abordar los desafíos del desarrollo rural desde una perspectiva esencialmente territorial a distintas escalas.
