Situación de las personas afrodescendientes en América Latina y desafíos de políticas para la garantía de sus derechos

Abstract

En este documento se presenta un panorama demográfico y social sobre la situación en América Latina de las personas afrodescendientes, una población cuya presencia se constata en todos los países de la región. A través de información inédita, se evidencia la desigualdad étnico-racial presente en diferentes ámbitos del desarrollo, como la salud, la educación y el empleo, que sitúa a las personas y comunidades afrodescendientes en una posición de desventaja. La región enfrenta el imperativo de lograr la igualdad en la diversidad, considerando también el aporte de las personas y comunidades afrodescendientes al desarrollo de los países. El Decenio Internacional de los Afrodescendientes proclamado por las Naciones Unidas, que se extiende desde 2015 hasta 2024, con sus pilares de reconocimiento, justicia y desarrollo, ofrece un marco para la acción idóneo a fin de avanzar en el cierre de las brechas de implementación entre las normativas vigentes y la vida cotidiana de las mujeres y hombres afrodescendientes
