Coordinación de las actividades estadísticas internacionales en el área de medio ambiente en América Latina y el Caribe

Abstract

En este informe se presentan los resultados de un estudio regional realizado por la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) en colaboración con el Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI) de México, en su calidad de secretaría técnica y coordinador, respectivamente, del grupo de trabajo sobre estadísticas ambientales de la Conferencia Estadística de las Américas (CEA) de la CEPAL. El objetivo del estudio fue examinar en profundidad las actividades estadísticas internacionales en el área de medio ambiente, con el propósito de fortalecer su coordinación y optimizar su contribución al desarrollo de las estadísticas de la región en ese ámbito. El estudio se basó principalmente en los resultados de una encuesta enviada a los 33 países de la región miembros de la CEPAL cuyo objetivo fue: a) dar a conocer el estado actual de los programas estadísticos en el área de medio ambiente; b) identificar los trabajos en materia de estadísticas ambientales que se están realizando en el marco de la cooperación internacional, y c) analizar los desafíos y necesidades de los países de América Latina y el Caribe en ese ámbito. Además, se realizó una revisión bibliográfica y se utilizaron otras fuentes de información como sitios web.
