Conectados a la banda ancha: tecnología, políticas e impacto en América Latina y España

Abstract

Este documento presenta los resultados de un conjunto de investigaciones realizadas a partir de 2009 sobre la contribución de la banda ancha al desarrollo de América Latina. Un primer conjunto de resultados se concentra en la medición del impacto económico de la banda ancha en términos de crecimiento del PIB, creación de empleo y aumento del ingreso promedio de los hogares. Un segundo grupo evalúa la utilización de la banda ancha en materia de aplicaciones, servicios y contenidos; para ello, se elabora un índice de digitalización de las naciones, que mide tanto la adopción de banda ancha como la utilización de servicios vinculados a la misma, por ejemplo gobierno electrónico, comercio electrónico y redes sociales. Con base en esos resultados, se proponen recomendaciones de política orientadas a maximizar el impacto económico de la banda ancha.
