Abstract

Enfrentar el cambio climático requiere de acciones urgentes de mitigación (disminución de los gases de efecto invernadero), pero también de adaptación, es decir, de preparación para que los efectos del cambio climático no nos tomen desprevenidos. Esto es de particular relevancia en las ciudades, ya que estas son las principales responsables de las emisiones de CO2. Son, además, el hogar de más del 50% de la población mundial (y se proyecta que aumentará al 70% en 2050) y utilizan dos tercios del total de la energía que se consume a nivel global (OCDE, 2009). Es esencial, por lo tanto, que las ciudades se conviertan en parte integral de la solución en la lucha contra el cambio climático.
