El perfil epidemiológico de América Latina y el Caribe: desafíos, límites y acciones

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar la mortalidad por causas, con énfasis en las edades adultas, en el marco de la transición epidemiológica en los países de América Latina y el Caribe, identificar los desafíos que enfrenta la región y proponer acciones que orienten la política pública. El estudio considera los cambios temporales y la heterogeneidad regional. Destaca que la evolución epidemiológica de los países latinoamericanos se caracteriza por la coexistencia tanto de enfermedades pertenecientes al grupo de las causas infecciosas y parasitarias, como al grupo de las crónico degenerativas, perfil que además está perturbado por el peso de las causas externas que, en algunos subgrupos poblacionales tiene un impacto relevante
