Evaluación de la epidemia de dengue en el Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia en 2009

Abstract

El costo económico total estimado de la epidemia de dengue 2008/2009 en el Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia ascendió a Bs. 63 millones, equivalentes a US$ 9 millones. 37% de ese monto fue financiado con recursos públicos y de cooperación internacional; el 63% fue absorbido por la población afectada por esta epidemia. La mayor parte de los costos de esta epidemia se concentraron en el departamento de Santa Cruz, que registró más del 70% de los casos. La epidemia se caracterizó por un número de casos más de once veces superior al de los cuatro años previos. Una multicausalidad yace detrás de esto. El presente informe analizó como posibles causas: la alteración en los niveles de precipitación, el manejo de residuos sólidos y los patrones de emigración. De los anteriores, destacan los crecientes valores extremos de precipitación y el insuficiente manejo de residuos sólidos.
