The Social Responsibility of Ownership

Abstract

The social function of ownership has gradually been losing relevance in private, social and economic ethics as it becomes a series of actions on the part of the State aimed at achieving economic equality and social harmony. As such, an important dimension of the social institution of ownership has disappeared. This paper attempts to draw parallels between corporate social responsibility and the social responsibility of ownership in order to understand the changes that the concept of private property has undergone over time, how it has affected the way we understand the social responsibility of ownership and how we might define it for today's world.
