Highway Conditions and Insufficient Maintenance in Germany: A Threat for Economic Growth: Online Appendix 2021

Abstract

In diesem Paper analysieren wir den Einfluss des Anlagevermögens und des Zustands von Verkehrsinfrastruktur auf die regionale wirtschaftliche Entwicklung. Hierzu nutzen wir einen Paneldatensatz der deutschen Landkreise (N=401) über die Jahre 2007 bis2016 und eine räumlich adaptierte Translog-Produktionsfunktion. Wir schätzen verschiedene SLX- und SDEM-Modelle mithilfe von FGLS- und GMM-Schätzern, um für Endogenität zukontrollieren. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einerseits einen positiven Einfluss des Anlagevermögens sowohl lokal als auch überregional und bezeugen andererseits, dass unzureichende Instandhaltung und mangelhafte Qualität von Verkehrsinfrastruktur die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung von Regionen signifikant ausbremsen können. Die Analyse zeigt weiterhin, dass dieser Effekt insbesondere von den Bundesstraßen als Rückgrat der deutschen Straßenverkehrsinfrastruktur hervorgerufen wird.
