Batteriespeicher sind Hebel der Energiewende – Großspeicher glätten Strompreise

Abstract

Seit 1991 sind die Preise von Lithium-Ionen-Zellen um 99 % gefallen. Diese Entwicklung ist vor allem auf Skaleneffekte und Effizienz­steigerungen zurückzuführen, begünstigt durch die gestiegene Nachfrage nach Elektroautos. In Deutschland hat sich die installierte Batteriespeicher­leistung im Stromsektor in den letzten fünf Jahren mehr als verachtfacht, vor allem dank Heimspeichern. Netzgebundene Großspeicher auf Lithium-Ionen-Basis gewinnen Marktanteile, andere Speicherformen wie Pumpspeicher stagnieren. Unsere Analyse zeigt: Strompreiszonen mit vielen Großbatterie­speichern weisen im Großhandel geringere Preis­schwankungen auf. Bei Heimspeichern ist der Effekt vernachlässigbar. Sie sind bislang überwiegend auf Eigenverbrauch ausgerichtet. Hemmnisse bestehen für Großbatterie­speicher beim Netzanschluss. Zudem bildet das aktuelle Marktdesign lokale Netzengpässe mit einem deutschlandweit einheitlichen Börsenstrom­preis nicht ab. Dynamische Netzentgelte bieten einen Ansatz, um diese Netzengpässe ökonomisch zu berücksichtigen.
