Abstract

[eng] We propose a model that explains differences in wages and unemployment rates between two regions. First, we show that when the two regions are in autarky, differences in firms, productive capacity lead to inter-regional differences in wages and unemployment rates. Second, whith free labor mobility, the migra­tion equilibrium is characterized by the equality of expected utilities and there is no reason for wages and unemployment rates to be identical between the two regions. [fre] Nous proposons un modèle qui explique les différences de salaires et de taux de chômage entre deux régions. Tout d'abord, nous montrons que, s'il n'y a pas de mobilité des individus entre les deux régions, les différences de capacité pro­ductive des entreprises entraînent des différences inter-régionales de salaire et de chômage. Lorsque la mobilité est sans coût, l'équilibre est caractérisé par l'égalité des utilités moyennes et il n'y a aucune raison pour que les salaires et les niveaux de chômage soient identiques entre les deux régions.
