Abstract

[fre] Croissance optimale avec population fluctuante. . [eng] Optimal growth and changing population. . This note introduces changing population within the traditional setting of optimal growth theory. Under the assumption of cyclical population changes, one derives a two-tier optimality rule. Within the cycle, individual's utilities can be arbitrarily weighted according to the Pareto principle. Across cycles, a rule analogous to the golden rule implies the highest level of utility for the stationary cycle.
