Ulpiano Ayala: el ser que yo conocí

Abstract

Ví a Ulpiano por primera vez en enero de 1962, cuando entramos juntos a estudiar ingeniería en la Universidad de los Andes. Durante 1962 y 1963 fuimos compañeros de promoción, pero no coincidimos en casi ninguna de las secciones a que fuimos asignados en cada curso. Por eso quizás no desarrollamos desde entonces una amistad personal. En enero de 1964 hice transferencia a otra universidad. No lo volví a ver hasta agosto de 1978 cuando, acabando de terminar mis cursos de doctorado en la Universidad de Massachusetts, ingresé como profesor a la Facultad de Economía de los Andes. Ahí estaba Ulpiano, convertido ya en una gran figura como profesor y como investigador, tanto dentro como fuera de la Facultad y la Universidad.
