Abstract

“Al abordar el análisis de la situación en Medellín, es necesario senalar que no es cierto que su problemática se halle sobre-diagnosticada. Por el contrario, solo existen estudios parciales y sectoriales que no permiten una comprensión totalizante del fenómeno. La explicación de la situación actual de Medellín no se agota en las condiciones económicas y sociales de la ciudad. Es necesario observar sus interrelaciones y ubicarlas en el contexto cultural en el cual se desarrollan. Con el presente análisis se pretende evidenciar en primer lugar que la pobreza no es el factor explicativo de la violencia en Medellín; en segundo lugar que el desempleo tampoco es el determinante de dicho fenómeno sino en gran medida un resultante y por último, que el narcotráfico y los elementos generados por éste, han sido unos aceleradores de los procesos dados en Medellín. Finalmente, se tratará de mostrar que los factores que más incidencia tienen en las condiciones de violencia de Medellín son: las bajas tasas de escolaridad en secundaria para los jóvenes de estratos bajos conjuntamente con su alto desempleo, la elevada proporción de muchachos inactivos sin estudiar, las condiciones de impunidad y una serie de elementos sociológicos y culturales que inciden en la forma como se desarrollan los anteriores fenómenos.”
