Abstract

******** This article describes the development of spatial analysis of the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) Colombia municipal obtained through Vital Statistics (VS) by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), for different periods (2004-2007-2010) in order to perform an analysis that considers the space as a factor explaining the behavior of the TMI. The stages begin with the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA), which will be focused to examine the distribution and heterogeneity of a preliminary data through statistics, supported with thematic mapping of IMR at municipal level. Then be held on Pattern Analysis and Spatial Autocorrelation to determine clusters or concentrations of high or low values and their likelihood of propagation, based on spatial statistics. Finally develop Geostatistical Study for rate estimates through a continuous trend surface. Spatial statistics has shown that the IMR concentration values and their location in certain parts of the country, supported by spatial autocorrelation. The estimated rate through geostatistics shows differences between periods. Interpolation errors decrease with the passing of the years, due in part to improved data recording, ensuring less uncertainty in places where the information is submitted verifiable quality. Although the results are not absolute, the goal of explaining the behavior and evolution of IMR through spatial analysis is fulfilled in the contextual representation of the phenomenon, generating added value key that opens a range of possibilities for the development of various studies at different scales.
