Características actuales de la distribución espacial de los bovinos en Colombia

Abstract

Desde que Alonso Luis de Lugo entró los primeros bovinos a las nuevas posesiones espanolas en América, en 1543, éstos se reprodujeron en forma abundante y empezaron a jugar, inicialmente, un papel de fuente de alimento para los obreros de los cotos mineros, y luego, una vez consumada la gran hecatombe demográfica que realizaron los conquistadores espanoles sobre los aborígenes, la ganadería fue fundamentalmente una cabana cimarrona, conformada por un panorama en el que sólo los equinos merecieron especial atención dada la tremenda importancia para el desenvolvimiento de la vida cotidiana y política.
