Abstract

Durante anos los economistas han ignorado la diversidad de la agricultura y su potencial para incrementar las tasas de crecimiento de largo plazo acrecentando la base de conocimiento de un país.Este documento confronta el supuesto comúnmente sostenido de que sólo el sector manufacturero puede conducir a más altas tasas de crecimiento en el largo plazo. Se desarrolló un modelo teórico para explicar la dinámica corriente de las industrias de frutas y flores de Colombia en las que el crecimiento de las exportaciones de productos agrícolas altamente perecederos y no la producción doméstica de bienes manufacturados. puede conducir a más altas tasas de crecimiento.
