De la tierra a la sostenibilidad: los avantares del concepto de capital natural

El concepto de capital natural ha sido usado con frecuencia entre los economistas ambientales y ecológicos para denotar la incidencia de las existencias físicas que alimentan el flujo de recursos naturales. En principio, la enunciación de esta categoría podría atribuirse a Herman E. Daly en el marco de las discusiones sobre sostenibilidad; no obstante, una mirada al debate entre los economistas estadounidenses de la década del veinte del siglo pasado acerca del carácter de la tierra y su importancia en la teoría económica revela que el precursor de tal categoría es Frank W. Taussig.Este artículo pretende profundizar en los detalles relativos a la enunciación del concepto capital natural, mostrando que si bien sus inicios se remontan a una polémica diferente de aquella a la cual este concepto ha hecho sus mayores aportes, también atañe a la relevancia de la tierra en la producción. Para ello, se abordan y ponen en contraste las nociones y debates en los que se ha planteado el concepto aludido.
