Abstract

In order to make a contribution to the theory of local development, this work aims to answer the question of how the economic performance of Antioquia is articulated with nineteenth-century mining. From a qualitative analysis between the investigations that have dealt with the issue, the primary sources collected and the study carried out at the mining company El Zancudo, focused on its regional economic impact, it is found that mining, in response to the interests extractive entrepreneurs and favored by the political and economic context, stimulates the productive sectors and promotes the industrialization and training of regional human capital, promoting the elements for the Antioquia economic takeoff of the second half of the XIX century.
