Masacre del 16 de mayo de 1998: una estrategia de control social en Barrancabermeja, un municipio con historia de acción social colectiva

Abstract

La Masacre del 16 de Mayo es la notificación de entrada de los grupos paramilitares a Barrancabermeja, como parte de la estrategia del control de la región del Magdalena Medio y de captación de los recursos del petróleo. Uno de los obstáculos para llevar a cabo esta estrategia fue la capacidad de acción colectiva de las organizaciones sociales en Barrancabermeja, por lo que se volvieron su objetivo militar. Finalmente, los grupos paramilitares lograron imponer en el municipio normas de convivencia, beneficiarse de las rentas del petróleo (cartel de la gasolina) y disminuir las acciones de protestas de las organizaciones sociales, pero no su resistencia al proyecto paramilitar.
