Aplicación de la regresión por percentil: Un análisis de desigualdad salarial racial por regiones

Abstract

Con base en la Encuesta de Calidad de Vida [2003] este trabajo busca determinar si existen brechas salariales entre personas afro y no afro, a lo largo de toda la distribución de salarios, entre las distintas regiones de Colombia. Se usa regresiones por percentiles para controlar un conjunto de características. De acuerdo con Melly (2006), se lleva cabo una descomposición de las brechas salariales para examinar qué porcentaje es atribuible a disparidades en características o coeficientes. Los resultados muestran que la magnitud estimada de las diferencias varía de forma sustancial en las distintas regiones, y para algunos casos es mayor en los individuos que presentan los más altos ingresos y, para otras, donde presentan los más bajos. Al llevar a cabo la descomposición, el efecto coeficiente es el predominante a la hora de explicar las diferencias raciales.
