Reforma cultural, iglesia Católica y Estado durante la república liberal

Abstract

Este texto constituye un análisis detallado, centrado en los anos que van de 1936 a 1938, de la oposición que encontró en Colombia la reforma cultural y educativa de la República Liberal (1930-1948). El argumento central que presenta el texto es el de que la oposición de la iglesia católica a las reformas condensa muy bien el carácter marcadamente tradicionalista de la sociedad y que los curas, obispos y maestros católicos fueron los voceros radicales de comunidades temerosas a cambios sociales que sus propios voceros se encargaban de presentar como el fin del mundo. Por su parte los políticos, funcionarios educativos y maestros liberales de municipios y veredas, al identificar la reforma con el partido liberal, no encontraron el camino de darle un contenido nacional, más allá de las banderas de los partidos, lo que favoreció la actividad de oposición del clero y los obispos
