Un modelo econométrico del mercado laboral y la elección ocupacional del empleo calificado en Colombia

Abstract

La estructura del mercado laboral ha sufrido cambios significativos en los últimos anos, especialmente en cuanto al empleo independiente. Aunque existen varios estudios al respecto, la literatura sobre empleo independiente formal es escasa, en especial del calificado que se requiere para crear empresas o negocios propios. En este documento se estudian los factores que determinan la elección de ser un trabajador independiente calificado, por cuenta propia o empleador, adoptando una metodología de análisis sustentada en modelos ya desarrollados. Una de las principales conclusiones de este documento es que no se encontraron diferencias en las características y en el comportamiento del empleo asalariado calificado y el independiente calificado, como tampoco en la elección de esta ocupación entre hombres y mujeres. Concluimos que los empleadores representan un número reducido del total del trabajo independiente calificado y que aspectos sociales y económicos del individuo, como la ciudad de residencia, la actividad económica, el empleo anterior, la ocupación y educación del padre y una educación empresarial, un mayor nivel de educación del individuo y la edad principalmente, juegan un papel importante en esta elección ocupacional.
