¿Migran los colombianos para mejorar sus condiciones laborales? Evidencia de la hipótesis de selección para Colombia 2003

Abstract

En este documento se analiza la transferencia de capital humano a nivel regional para de esta manera asociar la migración con los niveles de desarrollo de las regiones. La primera parte del estudio captura las características de los migrantes de las ocho regiones del país a través de un análisis no paramétrico de los ingresos, con el fin de ubicarlos en la curva de ingresos de sus lugares de origen y determinar qué tipo de individuos migran (no calificados o calificados). Los resultados senalan que para los hombres la decisión de migrar es independiente de la distribución de ingresos y las mujeres menos calificadas de las de las regiones más rezagadas son las más propensas a migrar. La segunda parte del estudio senala las dificultades de los migrantes para ingresar al mercado laboral, en especial de los menos calificados. Los resultados no permiten identificar al sector informal como un sector de transición.
