Abstract

The transversal consistency of the macroeconomic data is the main added value of the process of compilation of the national accounts, which it is obtained by the reconciliation. It has traditionally been achieved with arbitrage’s techniques, this is, once two numerical different records for a same variable were given, in the determination of final value, is attributed to a bigger weighing that one that comes from a most robust source – of more or less subjective way –. This paper examines the contribution of the techniques of absolute minimization, quadratic minimization and of the sum of crossed entropies to get the transversal consistency. Which, they constitute an application to the national accounts, of the procedures used for the bringing up to date matrix. It compares the results of the various techniques of optimization to update the intermediate absorption matrix (use matrix). For it consider a shortened version of the intermediate absorption matrix of the supply-use table and of the input-output matrix, of the Benchmark Compilation 2003 of the Chilean economy (BCCh, 2006). Next reconcile a supply-use table using a stochastic variant of quadratic minimization. And it concludes examining the best methods to reconcile national accounts. Finally, they expose the main practices of transversal consistency of the national accounts by means of methods of optimization, of the offices of national accounts of some selected countries
