Abstract

This paper covers a number of symposia held in the Suntory-Toyota International Centre for Economics and Related Disciplines during the academic year 1992-3. The papers assembled here are presented in the order in which they were given. In January 1993 Dr S. Lone gave a paper on the Japanese monarchy during the Sino-Japanese War on 1894-5. Professor L. Li visisted the LSE in May to give a seminar and kindly agreed that his paper on 'Student Nationalism in China, 1924-49' be included in this pamphlet. In July Professor K. Miwa, who was in London to attend the Stevenson Conference on International History, offered a paper on 'Commodore Perry's Fourth Letter'. While these papers are on disparate subjects and have no coherent theme, it is felt that their issue in pamphlet form is valuable.
