Assessing the Quality of Census-Reported Establishment Exports in the Annual Survey of Manufactures and the Census of Manufactures

Abstract

This report assesses the overall quality of the export shipment values reported by establishments in the Annual Survey of Manufactures and the Census of Manufactures data. It studies the prevalence of out-of-range and imputed export values, and the characteristics of exporters based on whether the export values are reported or imputed. These statistics are calculated for each year for 2002–2011, allowing comparisons over surveys.
