Abstract

This report describes a comparison of mean earnings and several earnings percentiles at the local labor market level. Using the 2014 Snapshot of the LEHD, we construct metropolitan area level measures of the mean and percentiles 10, 25, 50, 75, and 90 of the log earnings distribution. We compare these measures to assess whether there is substantial additional information in the earnings percentiles that is masked by average earnings.
