Locating MAFIDs in 2000- and 2010-Vintage Tract Geography

Abstract

The purpose of this technical note is to be provide guidance on how to determine the 2000 or 2010 decennial tract geography for MAFIDs. This is particularly useful when using the Master Address File-Auxiliary Reference File (MAF-ARF), which provides only a MAFID associated with a PIK in a given year. A simply query of the Master Address File Extract (MAFX) will provide detailed geographic information for any MAFID, but it can be a challenge to understand the vintage of the geography and which fields to reference.
