Ganar, ¿una maldición?

Abstract

El otorgamiento del premio Nobel en economía 2020 a Paul Robert Milgrom y Robert Butler Wilson puso sobre el tapete la cuestión de la maldición del ganador (en inglés, the winner’s curse), en el contexto de las subastas. Estas líneas fueron inspiradas por el rechazo instintivo que me produjo la idea de que quienes ganan una licitación, o una subasta, son en realidad perdedores. La idea, por lo desconcertante, puede lucir atractiva en el plano intelectual, pero, ¿en qué medida sirve para entender la realidad? Más precisamente, ¿con qué frecuencia, en la práctica, ganar implica joderse?
