Heterogeneous DID when units switch in and out of treatment

Abstract

In this talk, I will introduce the new xtswitchdid command, which provides event-study treatment effects for panel data when subjects are allowed to switch in and out of treatment. This is an implementation of the estimator proposed in de Chaisemartin and Xavier 'D'Haultfœuille (AEA Papers and Proceedings, 2024). I will also discuss how xtswitchdid fits into the DID estimators that have been implemented in the past couple of Stata releases and how it fits the evolution of our understanding of DID.
