Firms' net borrowing improved slightly over the last 10 years

Abstract

According to the May 2018 revised national accounts, the net borrowing of non-financial corporations improved slightly over the previous 10 years to 0.4 pp of GDP in 2017. This mainly reflects the sharp reduction in net financial expenses, while the share of compensation of employees and gross investment in value added increased. Selon les comptes nationaux révisés en mai 2018, la capacité de financement des sociétés non financières, qui s’est établie à -0,4 point de PIB en 2017, est en légère amélioration depuis 10 ans. Ceci traduit essentiellement la forte baisse des charges financières nettes, alors même que le poids des rémunérations et de l’investissement brut dans la valeur ajoutée a augmenté.
