Female business leaders: fewer credit applications, but not more rejections

Abstract

French female-led businesses make less use of bank credit than companies run by men, a difference attributable to a lower demand for credit among female executives. However, the probability of a loan application being rejected by a bank does not vary according to the business leader’s gender. Les entreprises françaises dirigées par des femmes ont moins recours au crédit bancaire que celles dirigées par des hommes. Cette différence s’explique par une demande de crédit plus faible chez les femmes dirigeantes. En revanche, la probabilité qu’une demande de crédit soit rejetée par la banque ne varie pas avec le genre du dirigeant.
