Os Fatores econômicos importam? Uma análise da criminalidade noestado do Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

Este artigo investiga como as variáveis econômicas (renda, desemprego e desigualdade) afetam seis tipos de crimes no Rio Grande do Sul (2000-2011). Os modelos incluem características demográficas e de políticas públicas, além de permitir a existência de inércia nas taxas de criminalidade. Os resultados indicam que existe persistência ao longo do tempo e que os crimes de estelionato e de homicídios não parecem estar relacionados às variáveis econômicas. As estimativas sugerem que os indicadores econômicos têm muito mais a dizer sobre os crimes contra o patrimônio do que sobre homicídios.
