Demografia, Mercado de Trabajo y Tecnologia. El patron de crecimiento de Catalunya, 1978-2018

Abstract

En los ultimos treinta anos, el patron de crecimiento de la economia catalana se ha desarrollado, alternativamente, de acuerdo a dos modelos claramente diferenciados. Durante el periodo 1981-1992 el crecimiento del producto potencial per capita se apoyo, fundamentalmente, en las ganancias de productividad de la mano de obra, consecuencia estas del fuerte aumento de la eficiencia tecnologica. A continuacion, y durante el periodo 1993-2008, el crecimiento del producto potencial per capita catalan se debio a la evolucion favorable de los factores demograficos y del mercado laboral, en concreto a la fuerte expansion en la utilizacion del factor trabajo, al tiempo que el crecimiento de la productividad se desacelero considerablemente. A medio plazo, la economia catalana podria recuperar una tasa de crecimiento del producto potencial en torno al 2,2% apoyada, de nuevo, en ganancias de productividad. Sin embargo este patron de crecimiento sera factible unicamente si la economia catalana se embarca en un proceso de convergencia y cierre de la brecha tecnologica que mantiene con la de otros paises.
