Abstract

The report analyses the Apulian TCF sector, focusing on the description of its fundamental characteristics, its articulation into sub-sectors, its recent dynamics and expected evolution. This is an important sector for the regional economy, accounting for about 9% of the turnover of the entire manufacturing sector in Apulia. Over the years, the regional TCF sector has also witnessed delocalisation to non-EU countries (especially Albania) due to lower labour costs and less stringent bureaucratic requirements. It has also been affected by social and cultural changes, which have negatively affected the consumption of wedding and formal wear, which has always been a well-established sector in Apulia. In conclusion, after highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the supply chain, the analysis focuses on the possible future, conditioned by the focus on the sustainability of production, the necessary pervasiveness of innovation and new technologies, and the key role that may be played by consumer choices.
