Instant Report N. 7/2021 - The Employment Situation of Women in Apulia. Women, Enterprises and Innovative Entrepreneurship

Abstract

The phenomenon investigated, which at regional, national and European level has worsened over the course of the pandemic, has multiple causes, first and foremost cultural ones. The statistical data cited in the report photograph some of the characteristics of the Apulian gender employment gap, in comparison with other regional realities and with the Italian average. The situation is different, however, on the education side, where there is a preponderance of women compared to their male colleagues. Finally, a focus is dedicated to the world of entrepreneurship and, in particular, innovative enterprises: here, there are still very few women in leading positions. The report concludes with some suggestions for a strengthening of gender policies, understood as prerequisites for development policies not only of society, but also and above all of the economic system.
