Evolución de la pobreza 1950-2024: aciertos y pendientes para la movilidad social y la igualdad de oportunidades

Abstract

El objetivo de este documento es analizar la evolución de la pobreza por ingresos en México entre 1950 y 2024. A partir de la serie construida con diversas fuentes se identifica que, en 1950, casi el 90 % de la población vivía en situación de pobreza, mientras que para 2024 la cifra correspondía al 35.4 %. Esto representa una importante reducción de la pobreza, aunque todavía insuficiente, debido a que México no ha logrado transformar de manera perdurable las condiciones estructurales que reproducen la desigualdad de oportunidades. La reducción de la pobreza, la disminución de las desigualdades y el desarrollo económico compartido no ocurren de manera espontánea; para ello, es necesario definir objetivos claros, trazar rutas explícitas y contar con los instrumentos institucionales y financieros adecuados para alcanzarlos.
