Educational and Income Mobility in Mexico: Early Gains, Recent Setbacksin Mexico

Abstract

En este documento de trabajo se examina la movilidad social intergeneracional en México, un determinante clave tanto de la igualdad de oportunidades como del desarrollo económico. Con base en los nuevos datos de la Encuesta ESRU de Movilidad Social en México 2023 (ESRU-EMOVI 2023) y encuestas nacionales de hogares armonizadas de ocho países latinoamericanos, se estima la movilidad educativa y de ingresos para ofrecer una visión global de los patrones de movilidad social. Las comparaciones entre países muestran que la posición relativa de México en las clasificaciones de movilidad social se ha deteriorado con el paso del tiempo. Estos resultados ponen de relieve la necesidad de contar con políticas específicas que aborden las desigualdades estructurales y promuevan un desarrollo económico más inclusivo.
