Conflictos asociados al uso del suelo: una aproximación al área de conservación óptima en el Páramo de Santurbán

Abstract

Los servicios ecosistémicos que prestan los páramos no cuentan con un precio de mercado y como consecuencia la asignación del uso del suelo en estos ecosistemas resulta ineficiente. En este artículo se estudia el caso del Páramo de Santurbán usando un enfoque de optimización dinámica para analizar las decisiones óptimas de uso del suelo, contemplando tres usos excluyentes del mismo: conservación, agricultura y minería. Se encuentra que incluir el valor de los servicios ecosistémicos en las decisiones de uso del suelo hace que resulte óptimo conservar por lo menos el 74% del área del páramo y que tener en cuenta potenciales externalidades negativas de la minería aumenta el área óptima a conservar y a dedicar a actividades agrícolas, mientras que el área óptima de extracción minera disminuye en más del 75%.
